Home / Malta Work Permit
Malta provides a highly attractive work permit framework through its Single Permit program, which integrates both work and residence authorization into a single, streamlined process. The system is administered by Identity Malta and Jobsplus, with dedicated schemes for highly skilled professionals, digital nomads, and seasonal employees.
Boasting one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies and an unemployment rate of just around 3.2%, Malta is experiencing notable labor shortages in various industries. The country offers competitive salaries, an English-speaking work environment, a pleasant Mediterranean climate, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance.
Malta is implementing significant changes to its employment immigration system for 2026:
New Single Permit System combining work and residence permits
Digital Nomad Residence Permit expansion with new benefits
Key Employee Initiative enhancements for highly-skilled professionals

The employer files the Single Permit application with Identity Malta. Standard processing usually takes 4–8 weeks. 2026 Update: Digital submissions are expected to shorten processing to 3–6 weeks.
Identity Malta reviews all submitted documents, including qualifications, employment contracts, and other supporting materials. Additional information may be requested during this stage.

Upon arrival in Malta, applicants may be required to complete biometric registration as part of the residence process.
The applicant receives the e-Residence card, which serves as both the work and residence permit, granting full legal authorization to live and work in Malta.
