Home / UK Work Visas
The United Kingdom uses a points-based immigration system, with the Skilled Worker Visa serving as the main route for employment. Applicants must have sponsorship from a licensed employer, meet specified salary thresholds, and demonstrate English language proficiency. The Health and Care Worker Visa offers a dedicated path for healthcare professionals, featuring reduced fees and expedited processing.
Due to persistent labor shortages in sectors such as healthcare, technology, engineering, and construction, the UK continues to welcome skilled workers. At the same time, it has implemented stricter rules for dependants and raised salary requirements to better manage migration levels.
The UK is implementing major changes to its immigration system for 2026:
Skilled Worker Visa salary threshold increasing to £38,700 (from £38,200)
Health & Care Worker Visa salary adjustments and new compliance requirements.
Shortage Occupation List replacement with Immigration Salary List
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement expansion
NHS surcharge increase to £1,035 per year
Sponsor license compliance enhancements and digital monitoring

Key UK Immigration Updates – 2026
The UK Home Office is introducing several major changes to its immigration system in 2026:
Higher salary thresholds for the Skilled Worker Visa, set at around £38,700
Introduction of a new Immigration Salary List, replacing the previous Shortage Occupation List
Stricter compliance monitoring for employers holding sponsor licenses
Expansion of the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement for certain nationalities
Additional restrictions on dependants for select visa categories
Enhanced digital application system, including reuse of biometric data for faster processing
The process begins when a UK employer issues a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), which includes details about the job role, salary, and applicant information.
Applicants must score at least 70 points. Points are awarded for having a job offer from a licensed sponsor, meeting the required skill level and salary, and proving English language ability.
Applicants must complete the online visa application, upload supporting documents, and pay the visa application fee along with the Immigration Health Surcharge.
